Can you commit to the chop?

If you’re a celeb hair superspy you’ve no doubt noticed some of your favs showing off shorter locks. We see you Ice Spice, Demi Lovato, Jessica Biel, Rita Ora, and Ayo Edebiri, and we really like what we see!

Why short hair is good for you and good for your ‘do

After tons of time spent in the sun, too much styling, coloring, highlighting or lifting, your hair might look a bit stressed. Parched hair can be prone to split ends and breakage. A lot of women find that short hair revives the look of your hair overall, bringing it back to a healthier state. And who doesn’t love the look of healthy hair?

Even shorter hair can help, like taking out your hair extensions and opting for a lob until your hair is stronger again, and stronger hair is healthy hair.

But let’s back up for a minute to talk about the different types of trendy hair now that short or shorter hairstyles are everywhere.

Short hair, do care!

These are some of the trendiest hair cuts right now for shorter hair:

Pixie haircuts are the shortest of the short. Think cropped hair with a few feminine details around the hairline and ears. You also might find details or a bit of a fringe at the nape of your neck.

Gamine haircuts add a bit of femininity to otherwise super short haircuts. Think tousled and softer with some uneven lengths to mix up the look of your locks.

Bob haircuts are usually very precise and can be on the short side. Look for a blunt cut all around with bangs that are very defined.

Lob (long bob) haircuts are flattering on nearly everyone. Lobs are longer versions of bobs, so hair might reach your shoulders, but still have a more defined look than hair that’s simply shoulder length. While the ends might not be as blunt as a bob, you’ll usually find bangs and layers.

Shags: Taking that ‘70s to ‘90s look and bringing up the length of hair and adding in choppy layers for a fun, shaggy look

So how do you style shorter cuts?

With lots of product. But not just any product. Since your hair and face are more on display, you’ll have to be sure to choose the right products.

  • Not Your Mother’s All Eyes on Me 10-In-1 Hair Perfector. Believe it or not, shorter hair needs a lot of help staying in place. And since short hair doesn’t have much gravity, you’ll need help controlling frizz. We love the way All Eyes on Me also detangles, moisturizes and adds silkiness and softness, which looks great on hair of all lengths.
  • Beach Babe Texture Spray. A top trick for short hair is to keep adding texture while styling. Divide your hair into small sections and spritz near the roots; Work through well with your fingers. Keep styling until you achieve the shape you like for each section – which leads us to another fun thing you can do with short hair. Add fun sections and twist or pull or tease into the shapes you prefer.
  • All Eyes On Me 3-in-1 Wax Stick. Love the look of baby hair or tiny spiky bangs or defined sections near your temples? Wax it. Apply directly to damp or dry hair and shape each section. Perfect to keep in your purse or desk drawer.
  • Plump For Joy Volumizing Hairspray. Not sure about how to keep your shorter hair looking perfect all the time? We are. Style your hair and then gently spray to keep your style. You can also separate sections of your hair and then spray the roots and use your fingers to shape your style. You can also spray hairspray directly on your comb and then comb through to create the part or style you prefer.

No matter which cut and products you choose, you should know that Not Your Mother’s products are vegan, dye-free, color-safe, and made in the USA. They’re also cruelty-free, sulfate surfactant-free, paraben-free, silicone-free and drying alcohol free. Did we mention just how amazing they smell? (Well, aside from the fragrance free products, of course!)
